Growing up in poverty stunts a child’s future, belying our ideals of equal opportunity. Some families experience poverty only briefly—when a parent loses a job or can’t work as many hours as they would like. But for kids who experience several years of poverty, the cumulative effects of housing instability, poor health, family stresses, neighborhood crime and violence, and crummy schools take a tremendous toll. The evidence is compelling that persistent poverty significantly reduces children’s prospects for succeeding in school, getting a decent job, and earning a living wage as adults.
The poor are often characterized as shiftless and lazy, choosing to be poor and unemployed, which can be a shady conclusion drawn but the reality that also exists is nepotism and corruption which leads to many been unemployed.

“If there be among you a poor man of one of thy brethren within any of thy gates in thy land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not harden thine heart, nor shut thine hand from thy poor brother:”
